Proverbs 4:26 – Ponder the Path of Thy Feet

Image
“Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.” — Proverbs 4:26 (KJV) Proverbs 4:26 continues the practical wisdom found in the previous verses. After telling us to keep our eyes looking straight ahead, Solomon now encourages us to carefully consider the path we are taking . The choices we make each day shape the direction of our lives. Sometimes we move forward so quickly that we do not stop to ask whether we are walking in the right direction. This verse reminds us to pause, examine our path, and seek God's wisdom so that our steps may be firmly established. “Ponder the Path of Thy Feet” The word “ponder” means to carefully consider, examine, or give serious thought to something. The verse is asking us to think about the path we are walking. Are our choices leading us closer to God? Are our priorities pleasing to Him? Are the decisions we make today taking us toward a wise and righteous life? We do not have to make every decision hurriedly. Sometimes the wi...

Proverbs 4:25 – Keep Your Eyes on the Right Path

Image
“Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.” — Proverbs 4:25 (KJV) Proverbs 4:25 continues the practical instruction found in this chapter. After teaching us to guard our hearts and put away harmful speech, Solomon now turns our attention to our eyes and our focus . The verse encourages us to look straight ahead and keep our attention on the right direction. In our spiritual journey, it is easy to become distracted by the things around us. We may become discouraged by our circumstances, tempted by what we see, or distracted by the paths others are taking. God's wisdom calls us to keep our eyes focused on the path He has placed before us. “Let Thine Eyes Look Right On” The verse begins: “Let thine eyes look right on.” This is an encouragement to maintain a clear and steady focus. When we know the direction we should take, constantly looking around can cause us to lose our way. In the same way, our spiritual lives require focus. There will always...

Proverbs 4:24 – Put Away a Deceitful Mouth

Image
“Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.” — Proverbs 4:24 (KJV) Proverbs 4:23 teaches us to “Keep thy heart with all diligence.” The very next verse turns our attention to something that flows from the heart—our speech. Our words reveal much about what is happening within us. They can encourage or discourage, heal or hurt, build up or tear down. Proverbs 4:24 gives us a clear instruction to put away dishonest, harmful, and corrupt speech from our lives. God desires not only a heart that is right before Him but also words that reflect truth, kindness, wisdom, and grace. “Put Away from Thee a Froward Mouth” The verse begins: “Put away from thee a froward mouth.” The word “froward” refers to something that is perverse, stubborn, or contrary to what is right. A froward mouth can describe speech that is dishonest, argumentative, rebellious, or deliberately harmful. This verse encourages us not merely to control our words after they are spoken but to ...

Proverbs 4:23 – Guard Your Heart

Image
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” — Proverbs 4:23 (KJV) Proverbs 4:23 gives us an important instruction about the heart. After encouraging us to listen to God's Word, keep His sayings in our hearts, and recognize that His words bring life, Scripture now tells us to guard our hearts carefully . The heart is at the center of our inner life. Our thoughts, desires, attitudes, motives, and decisions can influence the way we live. That is why Solomon says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence.” What we allow into our hearts matters. What we nurture within us can eventually become visible through our words, actions, and choices. “Keep Thy Heart with All Diligence” The word “keep” carries the thought of guarding or watching over something carefully. Solomon tells us to guard our hearts “with all diligence.” We carefully protect things that are valuable to us. In the same way, we should carefully guard our inner life. We need to be mindful of what w...

Proverbs 4:22 – God’s Words Bring Life and Health

Image
“For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” — Proverbs 4:22 (KJV) In the previous verse, we were encouraged to keep God's words before our eyes and in the midst of our hearts. Proverbs 4:22 continues by explaining why God's Word is so precious: His words are life to those who find them and health to all their flesh. God's Word is not merely a collection of ancient teachings. It gives wisdom, direction, encouragement, correction, and hope. When we receive it with faith and allow it to guide our lives, it brings spiritual nourishment and strength. “They Are Life Unto Those That Find Them” The verse says: “For they are life unto those that find them.” God's Word brings life because it points us toward God's truth and His ways. Scripture teaches us how to live wisely and helps us understand what is pleasing to God. When we seek God's Word sincerely, we find truths that can transform our thoughts and attitudes. His Word gives us en...

Proverbs 4:21 – Keep God’s Word Before Your Eyes and in Your Heart

Image
“Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.” — Proverbs 4:21 (KJV ) Keep God’s Word Close Proverbs 4:21 continues the loving instruction given in the previous verse. We were encouraged to attend to God's words and incline our ears to His sayings . Now, we are told not to let those words depart from our eyes, but to keep them in the midst of our hearts. This verse reminds us that God's Word should not be something we read occasionally and then forget. It should remain before us and become deeply rooted within us. “Let Them Not Depart from Thine Eyes” The verse begins with: “Let them not depart from thine eyes.” God's Word should remain in our view and receive our continual attention. In our daily lives, many things compete for our attention. News, entertainment, responsibilities, conversations, and countless distractions can easily fill our minds. Proverbs encourages us to keep God's truth before us despite these distractions. When Scrip...

Proverbs 4:20 – Listen Carefully to God’s Word

Image
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.” — Proverbs 4:20, KJV God’s Word is not meant to be heard casually and then forgotten. It calls us to pay attention, listen carefully, and receive its instruction with a willing heart. In Proverbs 4:20, the father lovingly tells his son to give attention to his words and listen closely to his sayings. This verse reminds us that wisdom begins with listening . When we quiet our hearts and turn our ears toward God’s Word, we become better prepared to understand His wisdom and follow His ways. “Attend to My Words” The word “attend” speaks of giving careful attention. It is possible to read the Bible without truly listening to what God is teaching us. We may read a verse quickly, but God desires more than a passing glance at His Word. To attend to God’s words means to read them thoughtfully, meditate upon them, and allow them to speak to our hearts. God’s Word gives us instruction when we are uncertain, correction when w...

Proverbs 4:19 – The Way of the Wicked Is Darkness

Image
“The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.” — Proverbs 4:19 (KJV) Proverbs 4:19 presents a striking contrast to the beautiful picture in the previous verse. Proverbs 4:18 described the path of the just as shining light that grows brighter and brighter. Now, verse 19 describes the way of the wicked as darkness . This contrast reminds us that the direction we choose in life matters. One path brings increasing light, while the other is characterized by darkness and confusion. The Way of the Wicked Is Darkness The verse begins: “The way of the wicked is as darkness.” Darkness makes it difficult to see where we are going. Without light, even a familiar path can become dangerous.   In the same way, a life that continually rejects God's wisdom can become spiritually confused. When people choose to live according to their own desires rather than God's truth, they may lose sight of what is right.   God's Word provides the light we need t...

Proverbs 4:18 – The Path of the Just Shines Brighter

Image
“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” — Proverbs 4:18 (KJV) Proverbs 4:18 gives us a beautiful picture of the life of a righteous person. After warning us about the dark and destructive path of the wicked, Scripture now presents a completely different path—the path of the just. This path is compared to shining light that becomes brighter and brighter until the perfect day. It is a wonderful reminder that walking with God is a journey of continual growth, increasing understanding, and hope. The Path of the Just The verse begins with: “But the path of the just…” The word “but” creates a contrast with the previous verses. Proverbs has been describing the way of wickedness and the destructive nature of evil. Now we are shown the alternative—the path of the just. The path of the just is the way of righteousness, obedience, and faithfulness to God. It does not mean that those who walk this path never make mistakes or face...
