Proverbs 4:13 – Hold Fast to Instruction and Do Not Let It Go

  “Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.”  — Proverbs 4:13 (KJV) Proverbs 4:13 gives us a powerful command: hold firmly to instruction and do not let it go . In the previous verses, we learned that wisdom leads us in right paths and helps us avoid stumbling. Now, we are told to value godly instruction so highly that we must hold on to it as something essential to life. Hold Fast to Instruction The verse begins with, “Take fast hold of instruction.” Instruction teaches us what is right and helps us understand how we should live. God's Word provides correction, direction, and wisdom for our daily lives. Holding fast means taking instruction seriously and refusing to abandon it when life becomes difficult. Proverbs 4:12 – Walking Safely in the Way of Wisdom

  “When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.” — Proverbs 4:12 (KJV) Proverbs 4:12 continues the father's instruction about walking in the way of wisdom. The previous verse tells us that wisdom leads us in right paths. This verse shows one of the blessings of following that path: we can move forward with confidence and avoid many of the obstacles that come from foolish choices. Wisdom Gives Freedom to Walk The verse says, “When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened.” To have our steps “straitened” means to have our movement restricted or hindered. When we walk according to God's wisdom, we are not trapped by the consequences of foolish decisions in the same way. God's wisdom gives us direction. It helps us understand what is right and gives us the freedom to move forward without being constantly entangled by wrong choices.
