Proverbs 4:21 – Keep God’s Word Before Your Eyes and in Your Heart

 “Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.”

Keep God’s Word Close

Proverbs 4:21 continues the loving instruction given in the previous verse. We were encouraged to attend to God's words and incline our ears to His sayings. Now, we are told not to let those words depart from our eyes, but to keep them in the midst of our hearts.

This verse reminds us that God's Word should not be something we read occasionally and then forget. It should remain before us and become deeply rooted within us.

“Let them not depart from thine eyes.”

God's Word should remain in our view and receive our continual attention. In our daily lives, many things compete for our attention. News, entertainment, responsibilities, conversations, and countless distractions can easily fill our minds.

“Keep Them in the Midst of Thine Heart”

“keep them in the midst of thine heart.”

There is a difference between having a Bible and having God's Word in our hearts.

We can own many Bibles, read many passages, and even memorize verses, but the purpose of Scripture is to transform the way we live.

When God's Word is deeply rooted in our hearts, it can guide our responses when we are angry, give us strength when we are discouraged, provide direction when we are confused, and remind us of God's promises when we are afraid.

Keep Scripture Close in Every Season

We need God's Word not only during difficult times but also during seasons of blessing.

When life is going well, Scripture keeps us humble and reminds us to give thanks to God. When life becomes difficult, His Word gives us encouragement and hope.

Keeping God's Word in our hearts means carrying its truth with us wherever we go.
