Whispers to the Heart #1: Take Time Before You Decide | Christian Reflection on Wise Decisions

 

Life often puts us in situations where we feel we must make a decision immediately. We may be tempted to respond quickly, speak before listening, or choose simply because we feel pressured. But not every decision needs an instant answer.

Sometimes, the wisest thing we can do is pause.

Taking time to understand does not mean being indecisive. It means giving ourselves the opportunity to listen carefully, consider the situation, and seek God's wisdom before moving forward. A hurried decision may satisfy the urgency of the moment, but a thoughtful decision can bring peace for the days ahead.

The Bible reminds us:

“He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.”

— Proverbs 14:29 (KJV)

God does not ask us to figure everything out by ourselves. When we bring our decisions before Him, we can ask Him for wisdom and direction. Sometimes His answer may be to move forward; sometimes it may be to wait; and sometimes He may show us that we need to understand something more clearly first.

A pause can be a place of prayer.

Silence can give wisdom room to speak.

Waiting can protect us from choices we might later regret.

So, before making that important decision, take a breath. Listen. Pray. Understand. Then move forward with confidence, trusting that God is guiding your steps.

You don't have to rush when you are walking with God.

🙏 A Short Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Give me wisdom when I have decisions to make. Help me not to act hastily or allow emotions and pressure to control my choices. Teach me to slow down, listen carefully, understand clearly, and seek Your guidance in everything I do. Give me patience to wait when I need to wait and courage to move forward when You lead me. May my decisions honour You and bring peace to my heart.
