Proverbs : 1:8, The value of parental wisdom

Proverbs 1:8 says:

"My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother."

This verse emphasizes the importance of wisdom, obedience, and respect for parental guidance, which ultimately reflects our relationship with God.

·Obedience to Wisdom – Parents symbolize God’s authority, and their teachings (especially godly instruction) help guide us in righteousness.

·Godly Discipline – Listening to godly advice protects us from sin and foolishness, keeping us on the path of wisdom.

·Honour and Blessing – Obeying and respecting our elders, especially in spiritual matters, brings blessings and keeps us from destruction.

·Symbol of God’s Commandments – Just as earthly parents’ guide their children, God, our Heavenly Father, gives us His Word to follow for a blessed life.

In short, this verse teaches obedience, respect, and the value of wisdom—all of which lead to a life aligned with God’s will. By obeying and valuing their parents' guidance, children can avoid mistakes and live a better life. This verse reminds us that parents have valuable experience and knowledge to share.
