Genesis 1 - bible study

The first chapter of Genesis is one of the most God-centered chapters in the Bible.

⛹️‍♂️ Application : The first chapter of Genesis is one of the most God-centered chapters in the Bible. God is mentioned by name thirty-two times in thirty-one verses. Add to that the use of personal pronouns, and He is mentioned no less than forty-three times. Thus, on the very first page of Scripture the Holy Spirit brings us into the presence of God and keeps us there. Gen.1-11 set forth a singular message about the character and works of God. Most of the central teachings of Christianity have their roots in the Book of Genesis.  No wonder Satan hates that chapter! No wonder he has brought up his heavy artillery to discredit it in the minds of men.

📖In Genesis the heaven and earth were created—in Revelation we see a new heaven and a new earth.

In Genesis we see the sun and moon appear —in Revelation we read that there is no need of the sun or moon, for Christ is the light of the new heaven.

In Genesis there is a garden —in Revelation there is a holy city.

In Genesis there is the marriage of the first Adam —in Revelation there is the marriage supper of the second Adam, Jesus Christ.

In Genesis we see the beginning of sin—in Revelation sin is done away with.

In Genesis we see the appearance of the great adversary, Satan, and sorrow and pain and tears—in Revelation we see Satan, sorrow, pain and tears destroyed.

📖 The first Book of the Bible corresponds closely with the final book. In the Book of Revelation , the paradise that was lost in Genesis will be regained. In the final chapter of God’s Word, believers will find themselves back in the Garden of Eden, the eternal paradise of God, eating from the tree of life (Rev.22:1-14). At that time, they will partake, wearing robes washed in the blood of the Lamb (Rev.22:14).

📖 Genesis has three distinct and sequential geographical settings: (1) Mesopotamia (Ch.1-11). (2)  The Promised Land (Ch.12-36). (3)  Egypt (Ch. 37-50).

📖It is notable that Genesis covers a longer span of history than any other Book of the Bible.

📖 The patriarchs who lived before the Flood had an average lifespan of about 900 years. (Gen.5). The ages of post flood Patriarchs dropped and gradually levelled off (Gen.11). Some suggest that this due to major environmental changes brought about by the Flood.

Genesis 1:1:- In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

What do the first few words in the above verse of Genesis tell us?

#. - In the beginning = There was a beginning.

#.  - In the beginning God = One divine God, not gods;

#. - God was already there at the beginning.

#.  - In the beginning God created = Purposely originated, no random chaos or evolution.

#.  - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth = Everything we know

How is the earth described in its beginning?

    Genesis 1:2 = Formless & empty.

#. How did God give form to the chaos to create order?

Genesis 1:3-5 = Separated light from darkness

Genesis 1:6-8 = Separated sky from waters

Genesis 1:9-13 = Separated land from sea

#. How did God fill His creation?

Genesis 1:14-19 = Populated lights in day and night

Genesis 1:20-23 = Populated birds in air & fish in sea

Genesis 1:24-25 = Populated animals on land.

#. What else did God create on the sixth day?

Genesis 1:26-30 = Man, the crown of His creation

#. What does it mean to be created in God's image?

Ephesians 4:24 = be like God in true righteousness & holiness

#. Why is man's life so sacred?

Genesis 9:6 = for in the image of God has God made man.

God always has a good purpose for everything He does!

WE WERE CREATED ON PURPOSE, WITH A PURPOSE, AND FOR A PURPOSE.

From the very beginning, God had big plans for us!

We did not arrive here by accident. We were custom created by the One who created the entire universe.

We were made to represent the One who made it all.

When we find our identity in being God’s child, it changes how we interact with Him and with others.

Let us spend time with Him to read and study His word.

Fix our eyes on Him and follow His plan, wherever it may take us.

Let our future depend on HIM.

MAN IN GOD’S IMAGE🙋‍♀️💫

GENESIS 1: 27

The Bible is for anyone who desires to be a godly person. God created man and woman after His own image (Genesis 1:27), and part of being in His image is that we are to reflect His character.

1️⃣The first step in becoming a godly man is to surrender to the lordship of Jesus Christ (John 14:6).

2️⃣We cannot become godly without the Holy Spirit empowering us to do so (Acts 1:8). Godliness is more than external behaviors; it is the continual seeking after God's heart (Isaiah 55:6-7).

3️⃣By faith in Christ's death and resurrection, the godly man has declared Jesus the Lord of his life, and his heart is set toward obedience (Romans 10:9-10).

4️⃣The godly man knows he will still stumble as he strives toward holiness (James 3:2), but his goal is to be holy as His Lord is holy (1 Peter 1:16).

The godly man:

* repents when he sins (1 John 1:9)

* considers himself dead to sin but alive to God (Romans 6:1-4, 11)

* seeks to remain humble rather than exalt himself (Proverbs 27:2)

* is a servant rather than demanding that he be served (Mark 10:45)

* Leads by example (1 Timothy 4:12)

* (if married) loves his wife as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25)

* lives in sexual purity, honoring God with his body (1 Corinthians 6:18; Romans 12:1-2)

* seeks to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18; Acts 13:52; Galatians 5:25)

* desires to please the Lord more than himself (2 Corinthians 5:9)

* bears fruit for the kingdom of God (John 15:5-8).

♥️LIFE LESSONS

💥A godly man is not a perfect man. We will never reach perfection until we are in the physical presence of Jesus (1 Corinthians 13:12; 1 John 3:2). 💥But the godly man embraces his manhood and knows that Jesus, not the world, has set the standard for what it means to be a real man. 💥So he strives daily to model his life after Jesus. He does not excuse the sins and weaknesses he finds in himself but continually surrenders those areas to God and asks for His help in overcoming them (Romans 6:11-14).

💥Regardless of physical appearance, social status, or economic standing, any man can be a godly man if he loves God with all his heart and seeks to obey Him in every area of his life (Luke 10:27; Galatians 2:20).
